skate.
Conceptual UX/UI additions to the game
'skate.' is a skateboarding video game development by Full Circle and published by Electronic Arts (EA) that released to the public for early-access play in September. It has been a long awaited addition to the franchise with the previous game being released 15 years ago. This project is proposing changes to the user-interface, and adding additional features to the game's menus, to improve the user-experience.
I do not work for Full Circle or EA. Images used, and mockups created, were made only as suggestions to the game's development.

In-Game Menu
A simple option to return to the game's launch menu
The image above shows the current in-game menu. There is no option to return to the launch menu or to join a new server.
In the new image, there is an option to return to the main menu. Without this, if a player encounters an in-game bug and needs to reset, they would have to force close the game and launch the application again. Returning to the main menu option also involves joining a new server which resolves the player's issue and saves time.
I would also suggest adding a controller shortcut to return to the main menu. My recommendation is to hold LB + RB + both menu buttons for 5 seconds. This combination would avoid an accidental press while playing. When bugs limit access to the in-game menu, a shortcut using the controller would also allow for joining a new server.
Map Filters
Mockup of an option to filter challenges on the map
There are a lot of challenges in-game which is great, but the map can be overwhelming and visually crowded for some players. Filters would allow for players to easily choose which ones are shown or hidden from view. The first image above, displays all challenges. 'All Challenge Types' is toggled 'on' and 'Hide Completed Challenges' is turned 'off'. When all challenges are shown, the additional options are greyed-out.
In the following image, 'Show All Challenge Types' is toggled off which makes the other filters visible. In this example, 'Event Challenges' is turned off so they would not be shown.
This work is ongoing and new mockups will continue to be added.
